To duck or not to duck?

So here's another hand, this time from the Teams event last Sunday. Rotated for convenience, sitting South at favourable vulnerability, your partner opens an 11-14 NT. RHO overcalls 2 alerted as either natural spades or spades plus a minor. You upgrade your spade jack and bid 3 raised to 4 by partner. West leads the Spade King:

Dummy
10 9 7
Q J 6
K Q 9 3
A 8 2
West
K led
East
2
You (declarer)
A J 3
10 9 7 5 4 2
A
Q 7 6

How do you plan to play? Poll time!

What's your line?

  1. Yuck. I don't like this new poll method much. I'll go back to the normal one next time!

  2. We need to know whether they play standard or reverse count.

  3. They were playing standard count so it looks like East holds five spades to the Queen, and therefore is more than likely to have a minor suit too (see the 2S overcall).

  4. So - A spades, diamond, club, diamond, diamond (throwing away spades). I somehow think that 5-1-3-4 on the right is most likely, and 5-1-2-5 with a singleton honour would work as well.

  5. I tried this line too. I thought I should maybe have ducked the spade (but inappropriately feared a club switch), taken the continuation tried the top diamond followed by a heart towards table.

At the table East held Qxxxx Ax x KJxxx, so you run into a low ruff on the second round of diamonds and it's all over. Even over-ruffing and playing a heart to table, and West (oddly) going up with the king I still suffered a spade ruff.
